When we are kids, we are typically encouraged to pursue our passions. Whether it be baseball, ballet, karate or theatre, many parents will drive hundreds of miles over the years to get their child to each performance, game or recital. We want our children to feel a passion for life and a passion for those things that drive them. But what about when we get older? We can’t just stop pursuing our passions – life is long!
I started blogging from a passion to share with others. In 2008, shortly after my daughter was born in the summer, I got very into the couponing craze. I loved saving money, I loved playing the game and I mostly loved telling everyone else about how they could do it. I would often email my friends and family with, “Okay, I have the best deal!! Go to Jewel, buy six boxes of Fiber One bars, use these coupons and they will cost you $.20 each!” Fairly regularly, I would get these emails back, “That’s awesome! I love you. Stop emailing me about this stuff!” To go with the cliché, I knew there had to be a better way!
In 2009, I went to the movies by myself (for the first time since my daughter had been born) and by the middle of Julie and Julia, I understood what a blogger was. I had picked out a site name and ran home to figure out how to start. I was finally going to be able to share my passion with whoever wanted to hear about it. I didn’t care if anyone wanted to hear about it, but I needed to put it out there. And so it went for 8 years, doing a job that started with a passion and continued until the end of 2016.
Sometime last year, I discovered that I felt a new passion emerging. Empowerment was my new jam. Positivity, loving each other, and seeing the glass half full. This had always been something natural to me, but seeing how much negativity was flowing freely out in the world, I felt a push to make this my new direction. And so, Dancing Through The Rain was born. I love this site and I have a passion to share the positivity, the stories, and the tough times with you.
This is one of the things that I have always enjoyed about Dancing with the Stars. While I’ve watched it periodically over the years, the contestants that I’ve enjoyed hearing about the most are the ones who have overcome struggles. It has never been about whether they win or lose to me, but how Nyle DiMarco feels the music or how Victoria Arlen continues to move forward. That is not to knock any of the other competitors, but for my experience, these are the people who drive me to watch the show. They promote a positivity and example that you just don’t see every day.
Our lives get very busy as we grow up, grow older, and make commitments, but there is always a way to pursue your passion. Whether your passion is like mine or you are a dancer, everyone will be drawn to something different. That’s a beautiful thing! Own it! And you can check out the “Keep on Dancing” sweepstakes, sponsored by Myrbetriq® (mirabegron) as a reminder to keep pursuing your passions and never give up on what you love to do.
