Chocolate Covered Bugles
If you need a quick treat, I’ve got one for you! These Chocolate Peanut Butter Bugles are amazingly delicious and super easy to make!
Serve this dipped Bugles dessert recipe at a party, a barbecue, or for a birthday. Plus, anyone can make them in less than half an hour, so they’re a great way to serve last-minute guests.
Using General Mills crunchy Bugles, this is a sweet and salty snack that will easily become one of your favorite recipes. A perfect assembly line to create with the kids, one of you can add the peanut butter cream and someone else can dip them in chocolate.
This delicious snack is made using Original Flavor Bugles, not Nacho Cheese. While you can make brand new recipes using the Nacho Cheese Flavored Bugles, this isn’t one I’d recommend them in.
Recipe Notes:
- If you feel that the peanut butter mixture is a little bit too thick, add some more peanut butter to soften it.
How To Make Chocolate Peanut Butter Bugles Recipe
Chocolate Peanut Butter Bugles Ingredients:
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
5 tablespoons softened butter
2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup powdered sugar
1 bag Bugles
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
**This recipe will fill a whole bag of Bugles
Supplies Needed
Large bowl
Mixing spoon or spatula
Piping bag or resealable bag
Parchment paper or wax paper
Directions:
Step 1: In a large, microwave-safe mixing bowl, combine your peanut butter, butter, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar.
Step 2: Mix well and microwave for 30 seconds so that it softens.
Step 3: Scoop the mixture into a large piping bag and cut the tip off the end so that there’s a small hole.
If you don’t have piping bags, use a plastic zip-top bag like a Ziploc and cut the tip off the end.
Step 4: Twist the top of the bag (to apply pressure), place the tip of the bag into the large end of the Bugle, and squeeze the peanut butter mixture into your crispy corn snacks until full.
Step 5: In a microwave-safe bowl, heat your chocolate chips in the microwave for 3-4 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until melted.
Step 6: Lay a piece of parchment paper down or wax paper on a baking sheet.
Dip the opening of the Bugle (now stuffed with peanut butter) into the melted chocolate and set it on the parchment paper to dry. It is easiest to do this by holding the end of each bugle as you dip.
Step 7: Transfer your baking sheet with waxed paper to the freezer for 15 minutes and enjoy!
How To Store Leftover Chocolate Peanut Butter Bugles
Store any leftover chocolate-dipped peanut butter Bugles in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Can I Use Different Chocolate Chips For These Tasty Treats?
Yes! I think that semisweet chips balance well with the sweetness of the peanut butter and salty Bugles, but you can choose another chip. You can use white chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips or even chocolate candy melts if that’s your preference.

Where do you find Bugles any more?
I’m in Chicago and we have them at all of our grocery stores, Walgreens and CVS. They are usually by the Chex snacks and rice cakes.
I tried these out last night. Love the idea, but didn’t turn out as imagined. The peanut butter mixture was far too thick to pipe and I broke several piping bags trying to pipe it. I added more butter and peanut butter to thin in out but still didn’t have much luck. In addition to that, my bugles were almost all closed so there was no where to pipe the peanut butter. Those where I could shove some peanut butter in, didn’t get nearly enough so we didn’t even taste the peanut butter in the final product.
I’m so sorry you had that experience!
Yes! I just experienced the same thing! Definitely an epic FAIL!
Yes, I had to thin the peanut butter mixture with more melted butter. And yes, not much room in bugles to pipe mixture in.
The procedure takes time- this is not a quick treat.
It did taste and look as expected.
My Grandmother tought me to make these 30+ years ago. We always made them with straight peanut butter.
That would be delicious too!
How do you store them, and do the bugles get mushy?
I usually store them in a Ziploc bag in the fridge. I find that they stay the freshest that way and that the bugles stay crisp 🙂
Fun, easy dessert but had to go thru the bag and only got about 1/2 useable bugles!!! Still fun!!!
I’m glad you liked them! 🙂 Yeah, unfortunately the Bugles don’t always cooperate.
