Nutella Peanut Butter Muddy Buddies
Muddy Buddies are some of my favorite treats. I have a long history with Muddy Buddies and they have always been a special dessert to whip up at the last minute. Plus, if you can flavor them any way you want – like with Nutella and peanut butter – what could be better?
My very first job ever was as a sample girl at my local chain of grocery stores. My best friend and I used to drive wherever they needed us, and we would provide samples of whatever foods they were trying to sell. We learned a lot about food and we had a blast being together. It was a great first job.
One day, two huge white boxes showed up at my house. They were full of chocolate Muddy Buddies. This was the first time I have ever heard of them and I’m pretty sure they were a brand new concept. Well, of course we had to sample them before we helped to sell them, right? And they were incredible. Still are!
Those Muddy Buddies didn’t last the day. We couldn’t make more because that’s not how this specific program worked, but they left a delicious little hole in my teenage heart. I have loved them ever since.
Muddy Buddies (which are the same thing as Puppy Chow – just not the dog variety) are a classic treat that you can bring to or make for any occasion. Everyone loves them! Just keep the ingredients on-hand and you really can make them at any time. It only takes a few minutes!
Muddy Buddy Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup peanut butter, creamy
1 cup Nutella
8 cups Chocolate Chex cereal
2 cups powdered sugar
Take out a medium saucepan and turn the heat on medium. Pour both the peanut butter and the Nutella into the saucepan and stir until they have melted together. Be sure to stir frequently so that your mixture doesn’t burn.
Once everything has melted, remove the saucepan from the heat.
Pour your Chex cereal into a large mixing bowl. Using a soup spoon or wooden spoon, pour the peanut butter Nutella mixture over the cereal. Stir everything together so that your Chex cereal pieces are well coated.
Place the powdered sugar into a large Ziploc bag. Pour the cereal in and seal the bag. Making sure that the seal is secure, shake, shake, shake that cereal around!
The cereal should slowly separate, once covered with the powdered sugar, but you may want to break up any large clumps (press gently from the outside of the bag and shake again).
Once it’s ready, pour the mixture into a serving bowl and enjoy!
These never last long (because everyone starts grazing as they walk by), so you may want to make a double batch.
