Root Beer Popsicles
Root Beer Floats are so good that they shouldn’t be reserved only for the glass. This delicious Root Beer Float Popsicles recipe is super easy to make and perfect for a warm summer day!
With only two ingredients, these root beer flavor ice pops are just like a classic root beer float. With creamy vanilla ice cream and the unique root beer flavor, this is one of those popsicle recipes that no one will be expecting.
Choose your favorite brand of pop for this recipe. I think that A&W Root Beer is the best root beer (Barq’s Root Beer is great too!), but you may know of another great option. I’m sure they are a little bit different in each area, so if you think you have the best root beer near you, go for it!
Make sure that you are using enough root beer in this delicious treat. The ingredients list will be enough to fill 10 popsicle molds (depending on the size), but you may need two 2-liter bottles if you want more.
As popsicle recipes go, these root beer and ice cream popsicles are amazing. They are a great way to teach the whole family what a Black Cow is (my mom always used to make them when we were little!), and these are a great option for a hot day.
Root Beer Float Pops Recipe
How To Make:
Ingredients:
2-liter bottle root beer
1 pint vanilla ice cream
Also needed:
Food safe popsicle sticks
Pops mold
Directions:
Take the cap off your 2-liter and let your root beer go flat overnight. If you don’t have that much time, try stirring it gently with a chopstick or other long utensil to remove fizz until you feel that it’s flat.
Once flat, pour root beer into your popsicle molds 3/4 of the way up. Use a tablespoon to scoop out 3 or 4 tablespoons (depending on how large your pops are) of vanilla ice cream and place them into the root beer.
Stir them together with your chopstick/long utensil. Add one more tablespoon of vanilla ice cream on top, but don’t stir.
Freeze for about an hour and then insert popsicle sticks into the center of the root beer mixture. Freeze for an additional 4 to 5 hours.
Once frozen, hold your mold under running hot water for a few seconds, wiggle your popsicle sticks, and they will pull right out!
Do They Still Have Root Beer Popsicles At The Grocery Store?
Yes! You should be able to find some root beer flavored popsicles in some grocery stores (most of which include root beer concentrate and corn syrup), but these homemade root beer float popsicles are better. While Root Beer soda does also include corn syrup, these homemade popsicles are as close to the flavor of a root beer float drink as you’re going to find. Give them a shot!
What Popsicle Molds Should I Use?
There are lots of ice pop molds out there to choose from, so choose your favorite. I have both silicone popsicle molds and plastic popsicle molds and they have both been great. I tend to lean towards the silicone more these days because I like that you can move the mold a bit with your fingers as you wiggle any of your favorite summer treats free.
That said, you’re looking for anything that will give you a nice popsicle form. With any of them, you can use a little warm water on the bottom of the molds around the ice pops to free them, so I’m not sure one is better than the other. Choose your favorite!
