Baseball Cake
It’s baseball season! As a die-hard Cubs fan who is still celebrating the Chicago Cubs World Series win (we waited 108 years, so we’re milking it!), I love to have a simple option for celebrating. These Semi-Homemade Baseball Cakes on a Stick are it!
Perfect for a baseball themed birthday party or on game day, these Baseball Snack Cakes will be a big hit. If you are a little league snack parent who has to hand out treats around the baseball diamond, this is the last minute cake for you.
These delicious cakes are like eating an edible image of a baseball inside a baseball mitt. There are no cake layers to worry about and no electric mixer or wire rack. This is a no-bake dessert that will yield you an adorable cake in under 15 minutes.
This easy cake recipe only requires two ingredients, but you will need a few other odds and ends to put them together. Each round cake will need a lollipop stick to make it into a cake pop. You’ll need brown cupcake liners for your baseball gloves, as well as a pastry bag or resealable bag to create the design.
The first time you make these, I highly recommend doing the first few yourself. It is the perfect cake to allow your children to help, but you’ll want to get the hang of it before instructing them.
Whether you’re making these baseball desserts in place of a themed birthday cake or for a dessert table during the baseball game, with just a little inspiration, these great options are going to be a win with your party guests.
Baseball Desserts Recipe
How To Make:
Ingredients:
White Fudge Hostess Ding Dongs
Wilton red candy melts
Also needed:
Decorating bags
Lollipop sticks
Brown paper cupcake liners
Directions:
Unwrap your Ding Dongs, pick up a lollipop stick, and insert it into the side of each snack cake. Place each little cake onto a brown paper cupcake liner (your baseball glove). You want the flat white icing side to be face up.
In a small microwave-safe bowl, heat 1 cup of your red candy melts on 50% power for 3-4 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until melted.
Pour your melted red candy melts into a decorating bag or resealable bag, like a Ziploc.
If you have trouble pouring, place the decorating bag in a large glass with the opening of the pastry bag pulled over the sides.
Cut a small tip off of the decorating bag. Using your red icing, draw two half circle lines onto the flat sides of your baseballs.
Next, draw the baseball stitching onto each curved line. Let your red frosting set for 2-5 minutes and serve!
How Should I Store These Cake Balls?
These delicious cakes will be fine at room temperature for several hours, so there is no need to refrigerate after making them if you are indoors.
Ding Dongs are shelf stable, as are candy melts, but you’ll want to eat them within a few days for freshness. Store any leftovers in an airtight container.
If you plan to serve them outside in the heat or you live in a warm climate, you will want to keep them in the refrigerator or some kind of ice cooler with an ice pack.
How Should I Serve These Baseball Cake Pops?
Because these are cake baseballs in mitts, they can easily be added to any dessert table or served as individual birthday cakes at a party.
That said, if you want to serve them standing up, a styrofoam block is the best way to make this happen. Insert each of the baseball pops into the serving block and your guests can pull one out as they want to eat.
Can I Use Chocolate Ding Dongs For This Easy Recipe?
Yes! If you prefer chocolate cake to vanilla cake, you can add another step with very little additional cost and have your wish.
Pick up some white candy melts, white chocolate frosting, or cream cheese frosting. Coat each of your Ding Dongs in your choice. It isn’t a lot of cake, so it shouldn’t take more than one tub or bag of melted candy.
Allow your topping to set and place each one on the cupcake liner. Continue to add the baseball stitches and serve.
