These Candy Filled Pinata Cupcakes have a fun surprise in the center of each cupcake! The perfect way to celebrate a festive occasion!
Pinata Cupcakes
Everyone loves a good cupcake. There are all kinds of cupcake recipes out there, but I think that they’re even better when they are fun. What constitutes a fun cupcake you ask? Piñata cupcakes!
These sweet treats are a fun way to have a celebration. Way better than a regular cupcake, making your own pinata cupcakes is a little like having your party favors inside your dessert.
I made these cupcakes for my daughter’s birthday party (she helped!) and they were a total hit. Every single guest was wowed and it was so much fun to watch their faces as they bit into their desserts. It was probably the best part of the party!
These vegetarian cupcakes can be made for any occasion if you change the color of the filling. Green sprinkles for St. Patrick’s Day, blue or pink sprinkles at baby showers or a gender reveal party, red and green for Christmas, red, white, and blue for the 4th of July, Labor Day or Memorial Day, red, green, and white for Cinco de Mayo – the options are endless! They are a lot of fun!
Whether you’re making these for birthday parties or just because they’ve become your favorite cupcakes, these Candy Filled Pinata Cupcakes are an easy way to make everyone smile. With different colors pouring out all over, they’re lots of fun!
Recipe Notes:
- If you have difficulty pouring the candy into the cupcakes, try adding the candy to a small bowl first and slowly bump them out with your fingers.
- When you serve these, make sure that everyone has a plate in order to catch the candy that will pour out!
How To Make Candy Filled Pinata Cupcakes
Pinata Cupcakes Ingredients:
12 cupcakes made with white box cake mix
1 tub white frosting
1 jar rainbow sprinkles
1 box Rainbow Nerds candy
Supplies Needed:
Large mixing bowl
Muffin tins
Cupcake liners
Paring knife or butter knife
Butter knife or resealable plastic bag
Directions:
Step 1: Bake your white cake mix cupcakes to the specifications on the box that you purchased. You will need a cupcake pan, cupcake liners, a large bowl, and likely water, eggs, and/or oil. You will want to finish with at least 12.
Once your white cupcakes are finished baking, allow them to cool to room temperature.
Step 2: Leaving each cake in the cupcake liner, use a sharp knife to cut a small circle piece out of the top of the center of the cupcake. Set it aside.
Step 3: Carefully scoop out the inside from the top of the cupcake (so you aren’t breaking any of the sides or the bottom) with the knife or a teaspoon.
You are making a little pocket where the small candies will live. Make sure there is enough space for the candy while still keeping the structure of the cupcake intact.
Step 4: Fill about half of the small hole with a layer of rainbow sprinkles.
Step 5: Fill the rest of the hole with a layer of rainbow Nerds.
Step 6: Place the cut out circle back on top of each cupcake.
Step 7: Frost the top of your cupcake with vanilla frosting using a large piping bag or a butter knife. This will cover the top that you’ve just cut out so that no one can tell. If you can still see any of the cut piece of cupcake, add some more frosting.
Step 8: Top each vanilla cupcake with colorful sprinkles and Nerds and enjoy! Let the celebration begin!
How To Store Leftover Piñata Cupcakes
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
What Kind Of Candies Can I Use For This Delicious Cupcake Recipe?
For the colored candies in this recipe, you can use all the same color sprinkles and Nerds or various kinds. Do whatever you think will be the most fun for your guests.
There are all kinds of options, but be careful to choose something with a candy shell or something sugary, like mini Smarties. Mini M&M’s or mini chocolate chips may melt before you serve each piñata cake and you want the candy to pour out of the middle.
Can I Use Chocolate Variations For These Piñata Cupcakes?
Yes! I think it looks especially cool with a white cake and white frosting, but you can use dark chocolate cake and chocolate frosting if that’s your preference. These yummy cupcakes will be a huge hit either way.
