Oreo Stuffed Rice Krispie Treats
Classic Rice Krispie treats are an easy and delicious dessert that everyone loves, but there are ways to take them to the next level. These easy Oreo Rice Krispie Treats are absolutely delicious and a fun variation that will be a hit with kids of all ages.
I am sure you’ve seen a lot of Oreo cookie recipes around (Oreo truffles, Oreo pudding, Oreo chocolate chip cookies, etc), but this is among the easiest. Using chopped Oreos and only four other ingredients that you can find at the grocery store, anyone can make them.
These no-bake treats have a base that is just like the classic rice krispie treat recipe you’re used to. Cereal treats that you can add extra marshmallows to so that you can make it extra gooey – this is just the same.
That said, the addition of chunks of Oreo cookies and melted chocolate goes a long way to turning this favorite childhood dessert into something completely different.
The actual cook time for this dish is less than 15 minutes (no electric mixer, food processor, or oven necessary!), but there is an additional 40 minutes of cooling time during the recipe.
So when you go to make this dessert, you can “set it and forget it” in the fridge for periods of time while you accomplish other things in the kitchen.
This vegetarian dessert is perfect as an after-school treat, a dessert potluck, for a bake sale, or any other occasion. Plus, they’re a perfect dessert to have your children help you with (or make by themselves!).
Their little hands can help you stir, do a little bit of pressing the krispy treats into the pan, and pouring the chocolate.
Recipe Notes:
- When you crush the Oreos, you want to include both the cookies and the creme filling. It is fine to have everything from small pieces to Oreo crumbs, as well. They will all taste great.
- If you find it difficult to cut the treats after they’ve been in the refrigerator, allow them to cool to room temperature and it will be easier.
- If you are a chocolate lover and want to make this chocolate-on-chocolate, use Cocoa Krispies instead of regular rice cereal.
How To Make Oreo Rice Krispies Treats Recipe
Oreo Rice Krispie Treats Ingredients:
5 cups Rice Krispies cereal
1 bag miniature marshmallows 10.5 oz
3 tablespoons butter, softened
1 1/4 cups Oreo cookies, crushed
1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Supplies Needed:
8×8-inch square pan
Parchment paper, wax paper, or nonstick spray
Large resealable bag
Large microwave-safe bowl or large saucepan
Medium microwave-safe bowl or medium saucepan
Wooden spoon or rubber spatula
Potato masher
Directions:
Step 1: Take out an 8 x 8-inch pan and spray it with nonstick cooking spray. If you don’t have any spray, use parchment paper or wax paper instead.
Step 2: Place your regular Oreos in a Ziploc bag or resealable plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin or your hands.
Step 3: In a microwave safe mixing bowl, heat your mini marshmallows and butter in the microwave for 1-2 minutes (in 30-second intervals), until the marshmallows become puffy and the butter is mostly melted.
*Note – if you don’t have access to a microwave or would prefer not to use one, heat your butter and marshmallows in a large pot over medium heat until they fully soften.
Stir the melted marshmallows and butter together and continue on to the next step. This will increase your cook time, but it won’t change the flavor of this great recipe.
Step 4: Add 5 cups of Rice Krispie cereal and 1 cup of crushed Oreos to the large bowl and mix well.
Add in all of the fine crumbs from the Oreos. You want all of the chocolatey goodness added to the melted marshmallow mixture.
Step 5: Scoop your Rice Krispies with chunks of Oreo into your prepared pan and press your Rice Krispie mixture firmly into the whole pan using a potato masher. You’ve pressed them enough when you have a nice even layer.
Step 6: Place the pan in the freezer for 10 minutes to cool quickly.
Step 7: Once it is cooled, melt your chocolate chips in the microwave in a microwave safe bowl for 2-3 minutes on 50% power, stirring every 30 seconds until melted.
Step 8: Pour your melted chocolate over your Rice Krispies and marshmallow mixture in the pan and spread evenly using a spatula.
Step 9: Top the chocolate with 1/4 cup of Oreo cookie pieces and place the pan in the fridge for 30 minutes or until the chocolate has hardened.
Step 10: Cut your crispy treats into small squares, serve with a cold glass of milk and enjoy!
How To Store Leftover Oreo Rice Krispie Treats
Store any extra marshmallow treats in an airtight container or on a plate under plastic wrap for up to three days.
What Oreo Cookie Flavor Should I Use For This Delicious Recipe?
As an Oreo lover myself, it’s a lot of fun to change up which delicious cookies you use for these sweet treats. The Oreos that you see in the photos are the classic varieties, but you can try all kinds.
Peanut Butter Oreos make these taste completely different (and fantastically delicious!). You can also try Golden Oreos, Mint Oreos, or Cookies and Cream cookies, which would all work well.
Try one variety today and choose your new favorite cookie for the next time. The texture of the cookies is the same, so it is all about the chocolate flavor you choose.
Can I Use Different Chocolate Chips For These Homemade Rice Krispie Treats?
Yes! If you aren’t a fan of semi-sweet chocolate chips or can’t find them near you, feel free to use dark chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips in their place for these gooey marshmallow treats.
I don’t recommend white chocolate chips for these Oreo Krispie Treats because you are looking for a richer flavor than they provide.
