Nutella Chocolate Chip Cookies

Regular chocolate chip cookies are amazing, but sometimes you need to take them to the next level. That is where these amazing Nutella Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies come in! By adding one simple step, this is one of the delicious recipes you won’t be able to stop making.

Chewy chocolate chip cookies that are stuffed with Nutella, this dessert recipe is going to be a family favorite. When you bite into the gooey center just out of the oven, it’s a chocolate overload in the best way.

The creamy Nutella center is the chocolate hazelnut spread that you find at the grocery store, so keep in mind that this recipe does contain nuts. If you are looking for a similar chocolate chip cookie recipe that doesn’t use nuts, you could try a Hershey’s chocolate spread in place of the Nutella filling.

With just a little bit of extra time to freeze the spoonfuls of Nutella and no difference in your bake time, these soft chocolate chip cookies are perfect for after a weeknight dinner, cookie swaps, or the holiday season. Who wouldn’t love a Nutella surprise in the middle of the cookies?

Recipe Notes:

  • You should not need an electric mixer – a wooden spoon or spatula should suffice.
  • While you will only be using around 1 1/2 cups for this recipe, I recommend having a mostly full jar of Nutella available, as you may end up scooping more than you intended.
  • These are more fun to eat when they are warm and have gooey Nutella centers, but they’re delicious anytime!

How To Make Nutella Stuffed Cookies Recipe

Nutella Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 large egg
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups Nutella

Supplies Needed:

Large sheet tray
Parchment paper
1/2 tablespoon
Large bowl
Kitchen spoon or rubber spatula
Large cookie scoop

A jar of Nutella next to a clear bowl of chocolate chips, a white bowl of flour, and a white bowl of butter, sugar, and egg mixture on a wooden table for Nutella Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies

Directions:

Step 1: Line a baking tray with a piece of parchment paper or wax paper.

Step 2: Grab a 1/2 tablespoon out of your cabinet and use it to place 10 scooped dollops of Nutella onto the lined baking sheet.

These do not have to be perfect and you will not be using the whole jar, just use the measurement as a guide.

Step 3: Place the cookie sheet in the freezer and allow the Nutella drops to freeze for an hour.

You can also use a silicone mat if that’s your preference.

Step 5: In a large mixing bowl, mix together your softened butter, both sugars, vanilla, and egg until creamy.

Mix until your dry ingredients are completely incorporated and you have a thick dough. Be sure to scrape the sides of the bowl.

Step 8: Use a large ice cream scoop to scoop out your dough into golf ball-sized cookie balls. Place each one of the cookie dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet.

Step 10: Press each cookie dough ball down to flatten a bit, peel off a frozen piece of Nutella and place it in the center of the flattened dough.

Step 11: Fold the ball of dough around the Nutella and then wrap it back into a ball. Roll it in the palm of your hand to get the edges of the cookies to shut completely.

Step 12: Bake your Nutella cookies for 12 minutes until the edges are golden brown. Allow them to cool slightly on a wire rack and then enjoy!

How To Store Leftover Nutella Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies

Store any leftovers in an airtight container or on a plate wrapped tightly in plastic wrap at room temperature for up to 7 days.

Do I Really Have To Freeze My Nutella Dollops Before Making Nutella-Stuffed Cookies?

I highly suggest taking the time to freeze the Nutella before adding them to each piece of cookie dough.

Using a frozen Nutella ball will keep it from spreading and allow you to wrap the ball of cookie dough around it much more easily.

When the Nutella isn’t frozen, it spreads as you are making each cookie ball (the one you are making as well as those waiting to be wrapped) and it becomes much messier.

Can I Use Different Chocolate Chips For These Chewy Cookies?

Yes! These are thicker cookies, so they are perfect for either extra chocolate chips or even chocolate chunks. You could also add some mini chocolate chips pushed into the top of the stuffed cookies before baking.
