If these easy Doritos Chicken Tenders don’t have your children eating their dinner, I don’t know what will! This is a crazy easy recipe that you can make for dinner or lunch in a matter of minutes. Besides, you likely have all of the ingredients in your kitchen already!
With a crunchy, flavorful coating of Doritos, you really only need three ingredients to make these. Homemade and baked, this is a great alternative to fried food for the family.
While my daughter will eat almost anything, my son is extremely picky. If the food doesn’t look just right or has too many ingredients, he’ll pass in a heartbeat.
Which is where these Doritos chicken tenders come in to save the day! He loves chips, he will eat crispy chicken strips if they “look right,” and so, these are often an answer to our dinner.
What’s more, this is the perfect recipe to let your kids help with if they enjoy being in the kitchen with you. Set up a little assembly line, give them an apron, and let them get to work! Crushing the Doritos into small pieces and “painting” the chicken with mayo should be simple – and a lot of fun for them.
One of the easy dinners or lunches that the entire family will love (who doesn’t want to eat chips on the regular??), this is a great Dorito chicken dish to keep in your back pocket!
How To Make Easy Doritos Chicken Tenders Recipe
Easy Doritos Chicken Tenders Ingredients:
1 large bag of Doritos (I used Nacho Cheese tortilla chips, but you can use any flavor)
2 small trays chicken breast tenders or breast cut into strips
1/4 cup mayonnaise
Garlic salt, paprika, or cayenne pepper (optional)
Supplies Needed:
Large resealable bag
Rolling pin
Large shallow dish
Sheet pan
Nonstick spray
Rubber spatula or pastry brush
Directions:
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and get all of your ingredients ready to use.
Step 2: Pour your Doritos into a gallon size resealable bag (like Ziploc or Hefty) and use a rolling pin to crush the large chips into small bits. This is a great job for one of the kids if they are helping!
The amount of chips needed for the recipe will depend on how many chicken strips you intend to make, so you’ll have to gauge that amount at the time, but the ingredients above should give you a good guide to start with.
Step 3: When the crushed chips are small enough, pour them into a shallow dish.
Step 4: Pull out a baking pan and set it next to your chicken and Doritos setup. Spray it with nonstick cooking spray.
If you are using boneless skinless chicken breasts, slice them into appropriately sized chicken pieces to turn them into tenders.
Step 5: Using a rubber spatula or silicone basting brush, “paint” each chicken tender with mayonnaise and then immediately press both sides of the chicken into the crushed Doritos. Make sure that the whole strip is covered with the chip coating.
If you feel like your Doritos are older or you want to add some bonus flavor, put a few shakes of garlic salt, paprika, or cayenne pepper into your mayo before painting it on.
Step 6: Once coated, place your Dorito crusted chicken strips on the ungreased baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes. Serve hot and enjoy!
How To Store Leftover Doritos Chicken Tenders
Store any remaining chicken strips in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
How Can I Make This Delicious Meal Easier?
You may want to use a paper plate for the mayo step for easy cleanup, but you can also use a cutting board or anything handy if you’re not concerned about dishes.
It can get a little messy, especially if you have developed a kitchen team so the kids can help. Either way, you’ll have some easy Doritos Chicken Tenders ready before you know it!
What Flavor of Doritos Should I Use?
You can easily experiment with different flavored Doritos or make one batch with one variety and a second batch with another. When I first started making these homemade chicken strips, I stuck with Nacho Cheese Doritos most of the time.
As my kids have gotten older, they’ve requested Spicy Nacho Cheese or added a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos to the basket for this purpose. Next time I’m going to try Spicy Sweet Chili – they seem like a great option for my taste buds.

Spiced up the Doritos with salt, pepper, turmeric, sage, crushed red pepper, and basil. 385Β° for 25min.
Flipped the birds half way through.
Dipped in honey mustard / spicy mustard.

You can go a lot of different ways when it comes to side dishes. Mashed Potatoes or fries, green veggies with cheese (or no cheese), a fruit salad and/or pasta salad. Depending on whether you want hot or cold sides, these should all fit well.

Do you have a substitute for the mayo? My husband and son are not mayo fans lol
I haven’t tried a substitute for mayo in this recipe, but typically you can use Greek yogurt as a general substitute. That said, I don’t know whether it will change the flavor at all. The mayo shouldn’t have a lasting taste after cooking, but I have a “not a fan of mayo” family member myself, so I get it! You could also try Miracle Whip if they don’t mind that one?

They should freeze alright, but may not be as crispy when you take them out. I haven’t tried this myself, so that is my best guess. π
