These Halloween Spider Web Cupcakes are the perfect spooky treats to serve for the holiday! Perfect Halloween party ideas for kids!
Spiderweb Cupcakes
When thinking of Halloween desserts, there are two ways to go – cute or creepy. I tend to err on the side of cute, but these fun Spider Web Cupcakes are a hint creepy as well. Especially if you put plastic spiders on the top!
This is one of the easy recipes that is excellent for a Halloween party or a small gathering at home. The perfect treat for all ages, these cute spider cupcakes won’t scare anybody, but they might become a family favorite.
These Halloween treats are basic chocolate cupcakes that are lined with simple vanilla frosting in a spooky fashion. Ultimately you’ll be making concentric circles on each cupcake, but slightly more scalloped in a simple spider-web pattern.
These vegetarian cupcakes can be made a day ahead of time if you need to start making your Halloween desserts early. That said, I would save the sprinkles to apply right before you plan to serve so that they don’t get soft. They will be fine at room temperature during the party.
Recipe Notes:
- To make these spooky, add spider rings, candy spiders, or chocolate spiders to the top of the cake.
- If you aren’t able to find the purple Pillsbury frosting with sprinkles included, use some white vanilla frosting and food coloring until you have a happy purple. Purchase your sprinkles separately and you’ll be all set!
How To Make Spider Web Cupcakes Recipe:
Spider Web Cupcakes Ingredients:
1 box chocolate cupcake mix (typically calls for vegetable oil, eggs, and water)
1 tub purple frosting (I used Pillsbury Funfetti Bold Purple Vanilla)
1 tub white frosting
Confetti sprinkles (green, purple, blue, and/or black)
Supplies Needed:
2 12-count muffin pans
24 black cupcake liners
Large mixing bowl
Rubber spatula
Piping bag
Directions:
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and line a cupcake pan with black cupcake liners. You will need two cake pans.
Step 2: In a large bowl, mix together your box mix, oil, eggs, and/or water until combined per the package directions on the box of cake mix.
Step 3: Fill your paper liners two-thirds of the way full with your chocolate batter, being sure to scrape the sides of the bowl. This should leave you with about two dozen cupcakes.
Step 4: Bake for 14 – 19 minutes, until a fork comes out clean from the center of each cupcake.
Step 5: Remove the cupcakes from the oven and allow them to cool.
If you want to help them cool faster, remove them from the muffin pan cups and place them on a wire rack.
Step 6: After each chocolate cake has cooled, frost each one with purple frosting.
How To Draw A Spider Web On A Cake
Step 1: Fill a decorating bag or resealable plastic food bag with white frosting and cut a fine tip off the end. You’re going to use this for your spider web design on the top of each cupcake.
Step 2: Use your white frosting-filled decorating bag to draw a straight line across your frosted cupcake, all the way to the outside edge.
Step 3: Continue to draw two more straight lines so that you have a star shape (like pictured) for the beginning of the spider web. This will divide the cupcake into 6 triangles.
Step 4: Starting towards the center of the cupcake, use your white frosting-filled decorating bag to draw a scalloped circle in the center.
Step 5: Now draw a second scalloped circle of white icing towards the outside. This will finish off your spider webs.
Step 6: Sprinkle the tops of the cupcakes with confetti sprinkles and serve!
How To Store Leftover Spider Web Cupcakes
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Can I Make These Easy Spider Web Cupcakes Ahead Of Time?
If you are making these ahead of time, remove your frosted Halloween cupcakes from each muffin tin and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper.
Refrigerate until you are ready to serve. Save the sprinkles as a last-minute addition or they will develop a soft texture.
Can I Make Homemade Chocolate Cupcakes For These Halloween Spider Web Cupcakes?
Yes! Feel free to make your favorite cupcake recipe if you’d prefer not to use a boxed mix. Make sure that you stick with a dark chocolate color and that your cake recipe includes cocoa powder or chocolate chips and you’ll be good to go.
