Crockpot Chicken Alfredo Tortellini

Some of my favorite chicken recipes are those that you can begin cooking earlier in the day, throw into the crockpot, come home to finish up, and serve for dinner. That’s exactly what you can do with this Easy Slow Cooker Chicken Alfredo Tortellini!

A hearty dinner with tortellini pasta, tender chicken, and your own alfredo sauce, this is one of those slow cooker chicken recipes that anyone can make. What’s better, the kids love it – even the picky eaters!

The perfect comfort food for busy moms and families alike, you’re going to love the rich, creamy texture of this great recipe after a long day. Plus, who doesn’t love that layer of deliciously gooey cheese on top?

One of the things that makes this slow cooker recipe so easy is that you won’t be slowly developing a flavorful homemade alfredo sauce. Many recipes include that, but on busy days, most of us just don’t have the time. So instead of working with heavy cream and cream cheese, you can use your favorite jarred alfredo sauce.

There are two steps to this easy dinner dish, so be sure to allow yourself an extra 45 minutes to add the additional ingredients before you plan to serve. Once the time has passed, you’re ready to eat!

Add this easy chicken alfredo to your meal plan rotation of slow cooker recipes because it is one that the entire family will love.

Serve it with a side of garlic bread, crusty bread, or a simple green salad for a complete meal and you’ll find that everyone is a huge fan from the very first bite!

Recipe Notes:

  • You can use fresh cheese tortellini or frozen tortellini for this easy recipe.
  • Make sure that you have thawed your fresh chicken breasts if you are using frozen.
  • While cooking the tortellini on the stove, make sure that it does not cook fully or al dente. The pasta cooks further in the slow cooker.
  • This dish is not a slow cooker chicken tortellini soup, but because of the extra liquid, it is a slightly looser texture than a restaurant chicken tortellini might be.
  • If your family enjoys a little kick, offer some red pepper flakes on the table.

How To Make Slow Cooker Chicken Alfredo Recipe

Crockpot Chicken Tortellini Ingredients:

1 lb fresh boneless skinless chicken breasts
1/3 cup chicken broth
1 jar alfredo sauce (about 15 oz)
1 cup parmesan cheese, grated
2 heaping cups cheese tortellini
salt and pepper as desired
Parsley garnish (optional)

Supplies Needed:

4- or 4.5-quart crockpot
Cutting board
Sharp knife
Nonstick spray
Large saucepan
Large colander

Cut raw chicken pieces on a red cutting board

Directions:

Step 1: Take out a cutting board and knife. Pull out your raw chicken breasts (making sure that they are at refrigerator temperature – not frozen) and cut them into bite size pieces.

Step 3: Add your small cubes of chicken pieces in a single layer to the inside of the slow cooker.

Step 4: Pour in your chicken stock. Add a little bit of kosher salt and black pepper and stir it.

Step 5: Cook on low heat for 4-5 hours or on high heat for 2-3 hours.

Make sure that you do not cook the pasta for the full amount of time recommended on the container. You’ll want to slightly undercook the pasta so that it finishes cooking in the slow cooker. You don’t even want al dente pasta.

For example, if the instructions say to cook the tortellini for 8 minutes, you’ll want to cook them for 5 or 6.

Step 7: Place your pasta in a colander and shake off any excess water.

During these additional minutes of cooking, you’ll be combining flavors, letting the pasta finish cooking, and allowing the cheese to melt.

How To Store leftover Slow Cooker Chicken Alfredo Tortellini

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. For best results, allow the crock pot chicken alfredo to cool to room temperature before putting it in the fridge.

What Vegetables Can I Put In This Easy Crockpot Chicken Alfredo Recipe?

There are some great side dishes listed below, but if you want to include something to stir into this delicious recipe, I would choose broccoli florets.

Cook them separately and season them with some salt and pepper. Then stir the steamed broccoli into your creamy alfredo sauce when you add the pasta and other ingredients.

Making this chicken broccoli alfredo will add just a few more minutes of prep time, but not much.

Can I Use Leftover Chicken In This Creamy Alfredo Chicken Dinner?

Yes! If you have already cooked chicken breasts, shredded chicken, or even boneless skinless chicken thighs, you can use it in this easy dinner recipe.

That said, using already-cooked chicken will change the cooking time. Cut your cooked chicken into pieces and add it to the slow cooker with broth, salt, and pepper. Allow it to cook for about an hour on low.

While the chicken cooks, make the tortellini. Once the timer has run, add the rest of the ingredients and continue with pasta night! A perfect meal for a cold day and an easy way to use up leftover chicken.
