Blackberry Cream Cheese Egg Rolls
If you’re looking for a unique dessert that is both fresh and fun, you have to try these Blackberry Cheesecake Egg Rolls. Tart blackberries and creamy cheesecake in a crispy egg roll wrapper, you can’t go wrong!
I haven’t seen a lot of new recipes that center around this tart wild berry, so I thought it was time to bring blackberries back to the stage.
My entire family loves berries and now that blackberries seem to be available almost any time of year, we can make this sweet dessert whenever we want to. No need to wait for special occasions for this one!
Recipe Notes:
- You can use vegetable oil or canola oil for frying your egg rolls.
- You have the option of using a small skillet or a large skillet. A larger frying pan will require a little bit more oil for the frying process.
- Be careful not to overfill your egg rolls or the cream cheese filling will leak out.
- These go great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, some chocolate sauce, or caramel sauce if you want to serve them alongside something.
How To Make Blackberry Cheesecake Egg Rolls
Blackberry Cheesecake Egg Rolls Ingredients:
1 pint fresh blackberries
1 block cream cheese 8 oz, softened
3/4+ cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
1 package egg roll wrappers
2 tablespoons water
2-3 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
Supplies Needed:
Large mixing bowl
Electric mixer
Rubber spatula
Small bowl
Small frying pan
Large stainless steel tongs
Paper towels
Directions:
Step 1: Wash your blackberries and set them aside.
How To Make Cheesecake Filling
Step 2: In the bowl of a stand mixer or with a hand mixer and a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese on medium speed.
Step 3: Once the cream cheese is smooth, add 3/4 cup powdered sugar and continue to mix until it has combined.
Step 4: Add the vanilla and lemon juice and mix until smooth.
How To Wrap Blackberry Egg Rolls
Step 1: On a clean work surface or a baking sheet, lay out an egg roll wrapper with one corner towards you so that it is in a diamond shape as you look at it.
Step 2: Add about 2 teaspoons of the cheesecake mixture in a straight line onto the bottom half of the wrapper.
Step 3: Add 4-5 blackberries to the top of the filling.
Step 4: Add the water to a small bowl. Dip your finger into the water and wet the bottom corner.
Step 5: Pull that corner over the berry mixture and press it down to adhere it to the bottom of the wrapper.
Step 6: Dip your finger into the water and run it along the right or left side edge of the egg roll wrapper to moisten it. Bring that side to the middle and adhere it to the middle of the wrapper.
Step 7: Repeat this same thing on the other side. Your egg roll should look like a kind of envelope at this point.
Step 8: Dip your finger in the water and wet the top edges of the egg roll wrapper with a couple drops of water. Roll the final corner around the rest of the egg roll, making sure that it has sealed well.
How To Fry Blackberry Egg Rolls
Step 1: Heat about 1 1/2 inches of oil in a small skillet on medium heat or medium-high heat.
Step 2: Once the hot oil is ready, place the egg rolls into the pan, seam-side down, 3 at a time.
Step 3: When they begin to brown, in about 1 minute, flip them over and fry them on the other side.
Step 4: Once they are golden brown, drain the cooked egg rolls on a paper towel-lined plate.
Step 5: Allow them to cool for 1-2 minutes. Top them with some additional powdered sugar if desired and enjoy!
How To Store Leftover Blackberry Cheesecake Egg Rolls
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
What Egg Roll Wrappers Should I Use?
You will want to use pre-made egg roll wrappers for this great recipe. Because they are so commonly used now, you don’t have to visit an Asian market to get them. They should be right in the produce section at your local grocery store.
I use Nasoya egg roll wraps. I’ve found them super easy to work with and they give me the best results in both folding each Nasoya wrap and frying.
Be careful that you are choosing eggroll wrappers and not wonton wrappers or spring roll wrappers. While wonton wrappers are made from similar ingredients, they are much smaller.
Spring roll wrappers, which are translucent and stretchy, will not give you what you’re looking for from a traditional egg roll wrapper.
Can I Make These In An Air Fryer?
Yes! Spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray or nonstick cooking spray. Place your egg rolls into the basket in a single layer. Spray the tops of the egg rolls to encourage them to crisp.
Fry them at 360 degrees for 5 minutes. Open the air fryer and flip all of your egg rolls. Spray this side with more cooking spray and air fry them for another 4 or 5 minutes.
Can I Add Different Berries To These Egg Rolls?
Yes! I love the way these tart berries taste in this delicious dessert, but if they are out of season or you want to try another type of berry, there are a few options.
You could use sliced fresh strawberries to make strawberry cheesecake egg rolls, fresh raspberries for raspberry cheesecake egg rolls, or fresh blueberries for blueberry cheesecake egg rolls.
If you don’t have access to fresh berries at all, you could opt for two teaspoons of blueberry, raspberry, or strawberry rhubarb pie filling, or go for cherry pie filling to make some cherry cheesecake egg rolls.
