Homemade Pita Chips With Za’atar

If you’re looking for a great way to make unique pita chips at home, these Baked Za’atar Pita Chips are the answer! Crispy chips coated with a delicious Za’atar mixture, these will be a huge hit!

Zaatar bread is a middle eastern delicacy called Manakish Za’atar where you bake a flatbread that is topped with a Zaatar spice mix, olive oil, and sometimes olives or cheese. It is a bit complicated to put together in a short time, but this recipe is an easy twist with the same flavors.

One person’s favorite way to pair these may be totally different from someone else’s. For example, I enjoy eating them with a little combo of feta cheese and red peppers, but the rest of my family prefers hummus. Try it with one thing the first time you make them and pair them another way the next time!

What Is Za’atar Seasoning And What Does It Taste Like?

Za’atar is a middle eastern spice blend. It is a combination of herb seasonings including dried oregano, thyme, and/or marjoram, with sumac and toasted sesame seeds. This provides a unique woodsy, floral, tangy, and nutty flavor that is tough to explain until you taste it.

Recipe Notes:

  • You can use white or whole wheat pita bread for this recipe.
