Easy Cheddar And Sour Cream Ranch Dip
When you are hosting a party, a super bowl party, or a holiday gathering and you are on the hunt for appetizers, easy dip recipes are a great go-to.
It is always my preference that dip recipes have only a few ingredients and taste great. That is the dream, right? This Cheddar and Sour Cream Ranch Dip is the answer!
This creamy and cheesy dip is unbelievably easy and will quite literally take you 5 minutes to whip up. Keep the ingredients on hand in your kitchen and you can make it whenever you need a quick appetizer to put out for guests.
This flavorful dip goes great with fresh vegetables, but you can also serve it with chips or – my favorite – Fritos! They scoop it up perfectly and pair nicely with the salty, corn flavor.
One of the best things about this easy ranch dip recipe is that you can pick up all of the simple ingredients at any grocery store. With ranch mix, shredded cheese, and sour cream, the ingredient list doesn’t get much easier than this.
Always vegetarian and delicious, this is the dip that the whole family will be asking for on movie night or game day. Enjoy!
Recipe Notes:
- This homemade ranch dip recipe is easiest to stir together if the main ingredients aren’t taken right out of the refrigerator. They don’t need to be room temperature, but take the sour cream and cheese out of the cold shortly before you plan to mix.
- If you have a homemade ranch dip seasoning recipe that you make, you can use that instead of the packet.
- You can use fat-free sour cream or full-fat sour cream for this recipe.
How To Make Cheddar And Sour Cream Ranch Dip Recipe
Cheddar And Sour Cream Ranch Dip Ingredients:
16 oz container sour cream
1 package Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix 1 oz
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Supplies Needed:
Large bowl
Kitchen spoon or wooden spoon
Directions:
Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, pour out your sour cream.
I find it easier to make this dip when the sour cream is not directly from the refrigerator, so you may want to take the container out about 1/2 hour before you plan to make your dip.
Place it in a large bowl and set it aside while you do something else.
Step 2: Pour in the ranch seasoning mix and stir to combine well with the creamy base.
Step 3: Add your cheddar cheese to the combination of sour cream and ranch and stir.
It may be easiest to stir in half and then the next half instead of pouring it in all at once.
Place this dip in a serving bowl next to Fritos scoops (my favorite chip to serve it with!), any other corn chips, or some fresh veggies.
How To Store Leftover Cheddar And Sour Cream Ranch Dip
Store any leftovers (if it doesn’t disappear in a single day!) in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Can I Add Anything Else To This Easy Homemade Ranch Dip?
Yes! You can absolutely choose to add other ingredients if you want to bulk up this creamy ranch dip recipe. Something like bacon bits, chopped green onions, chopped fresh onions, fresh herbs (think fresh chives or fresh parsley), or black olives will change the flavor, but is an easy way to vary things for next time.
I have been told that people have added other seasonings as well. Onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper are options, but there is so much flavor in the ranch dip mix, you shouldn’t need them.
Can I Use Anything Other Than Sour Cream As The Base?
If you can use sour cream in this recipe, I would make that your first choice for best results.
That said, if you need another option to abide by dietary needs, you can use softened cream cheese, plain Greek yogurt, or non-fat Greek yogurt as substitutes.
The texture will be different, but it will still taste like the best ranch dip ever!
What Is Good To Dip In This Ranch Chip Dip?
Let’s expand on this just a bit because it’s the #1 question I get asked. I see this homemade ranch dip as a Frito dip because it is my favorite way to eat it, but there are other options.
You can serve it with potato chips, tortilla chips, carrot sticks, or with a full veggie tray. You may not have thought of it, but it is also the perfect recipe to make as a sandwich spread!
