While this process takes around an hour and a half, most of the time is spent waiting for things to set. Your actual work time on these is minimal, so don’t worry too much! Make sure that you have access to a nice work area, a microwave, and a fridge and you should be good to go.

Recipe Notes:

  • Be sure to use regular Rice Krispies cereal so that you get the right color combination. Using strawberry or cocoa won’t give you the pale color that you need for the point of these fun Halloween treats.
  • These sweet treats can sit at room temperature all through your gathering.
  • Serve these on a plate surrounded by regular candy corn candies for fun.
  • You should be able to find candy melts in the baking aisle at your local grocery store or online

How To Make Candy Corn Krispies Treats Recipe:

Candy Corn Krispie Treats Ingredients:

4 cups Rice Krispies cereal
10 oz bag mini marshmallows
3 Tbsp butter, softened
1 bag orange candy melts
1 bag yellow candy melts
Orange sugar sprinkles

Supplies Needed:

9×9-inch baking dish
Large microwave-safe bowl
Mixing spoon
2 small bowls
Parchment paper or wax paper

A clear bowl of marshmallows and cut pieces of butter next to a white bowl of rice krispies cereal on a wood table

Directions:

Step 1: Pull out a 9×9 baking dish and grease it with butter or nonstick cooking spray. I find it easiest to use a glass or ceramic cake pan for Rice Krispies treats because of the rounded bottom, but you should be fine to use any baking pan that you have.

Step 2: In a large microwave-safe bowl, heat your marshmallows and butter for 1-2 minutes (in 30 second intervals) until the marshmallows start to grow. Remove your bowl from the microwave and stir them together.

If you’d prefer not to use the microwave method, melt your marshmallows and butter over low heat on the stove in a large saucepan, stirring with a greased spatula or wooden spoon.

Can I Use Different Kinds Of Chocolate For This Halloween Rice Krispie Treats Recipe?

You can. I highly suggest using candy melts for these fun treats because they dry very smoothly and have a great texture. That said, if you don’t have access to Wilton candy melts or different brands at your grocery stores or online, you could use white chocolate chips and different colors of food coloring.

If you have a little bit of orange coloring and yellow coloring (the krispie treats are your white layer), you can melt the chocolate chips, add your colors, and follow the instructions above. Just remember that melted chocolate chips will have a grittier texture when it dries.
