Chocolate Oreo Trifle

This Oreo Cookies Chocolate Trifle is about to be the hit of your next party! It looks AMAZING and tastes even better! With Oreo cookies, Cool Whip, and creamy pudding, what could go wrong??

This Oreo trifle is a no bake dessert that is perfect for family gatherings. An easy recipe where everyone can see each of the layers of this gorgeous trifle, it actually makes for as much a conversation piece as a delicious dessert!

The best part is that anyone can make this chocolate trifle recipe with Oreo, and even better, it will take you half an hour to put together! If you don’t have a trifle bowl handy, use a large glass bowl or a punch bowl to get the same effect.

I know that this Oreo Cookie trifle looks like one huge dessert, and it is. But it is easy to dish out into individual servings after a family dinner or at a potluck. It really is the ultimate chocolate dessert.

A naturally vegetarian dish, this is one of those fun desserts that people will talk about. A chocolate lover’s dream just as it is, you could also serve it with fudgy brownies underneath or on the side.

Recipe Notes:

  • You can use a hot fudge sauce instead of chocolate syrup.
  • I would not use chocolate mousse instead of pudding, as pudding is denser and will hold itself up far better.
  • You can add milk chocolate chips to the creamy chocolate pudding for additional texture and chocolate bits.
  • If you plan to serve this with fresh fruit, fresh berries pair with it the best.

How To Make This Chocolate Trifle Recipe

Ingredients:
2 Oreo cookies family size 1lb 3.1 oz packs
1 Instant chocolate pudding mix 5.3 oz
3 cups cold milk
Whipped topping 16 oz (such as Cool Whip)
Chocolate syrup

Directions:

In a large mixing bowl (a separate bowl, not your trifle bowl), stir together your instant pudding and milk. Set the large bowl in the fridge for about 5 minutes to set.

After it has set, stir half of your whipped topping into the pudding.

Place 5 rows of Oreos into a large zip-lock bag, seal the bag, and crush the Oreos with your hands, a rolling pin, or a potato masher. It is fine if you have some large Oreo pieces and cookie crumbs. Using a food processor for this step would make the pieces too fine.

Spread about half of your whipped topping onto your Oreo layer.

Serve immediately for best results. If you plan to serve this Oreo trifle recipe the next day, wait to put the full cookies on the top and cover the rest of the alternate layers with plastic wrap.

Store it in the refrigerator until you are ready. It doesn’t do well at room temperature for too long.

Is This Oreo Dessert The Same As A Chocolate Lasagna Trifle?

Yes! These are basically the same thing. Your favorite dessert lasagna may use some type of sponge cake or chocolate cake and whipped cream, but any of these easy recipes are going to be a little bit different. That said, this is an extra special dessert that won’t take much time to make, no matter what you call it.

Can I Add A Layer Of Brownies To This Easy Chocolate Trifle Recipe?

Yes! One of the best things about trifle recipes is that you can add or subtract as desired. If you have some extra time, chocolate brownies are a great addition.

Bake brownies according to the brownie mix package directions. Once cool, slice them into 1-inch squares and add them to your trifle. A great option would be placing half of the cubes on top of the layers of Oreo cookies, just below each pudding layer.

Can I Turn This Into Individual Trifles?

Yes! For some special occasions, it is much easier to serve individual servings, and this is the perfect chocolate dessert for that scenario. It is a real crowd pleaser no matter the size!

Using small glasses (either plastic or glass), add some crushed cookies to the bottom. You would have used whole cookies for the bottom of the trifle dish, but for single servings, crushed will be easier. Continue to layer everything else according to the recipe directions.
